Lynne McClure

Friday, January 5, 2007

Good news! A couple weeks before Christmas, Lynne finally came home!

Lynne is still in a wheelchair, but continues to have rehab in her home every day and will hopefully be able to walk on her own again. She has a couple of caregivers who are there during the day to help her while Pat is at work.

Lynne had a seizure the week between Christmas and New Year's, and was hospitalized for a few days, but is now back home. She is on anti-seizure medication, and is still adjusting to it, but she cannot do her rehab, as she is so groggy from it.

It is really great for friends to have Lynne back home, where it is easier to visit her.

Yay! Lynne has been coming home on Saturday and Sunday afternoons! She is in a care home but is going to all-day rehab Monday-Fridays. Pat picks her up early afternoon on Saturday and Sunday and brings her home for several hours. It has been much easier for visits with family and friends in the comfort of her own home! If all goes well, Lynne may be home by Christmas!

Physically, Lynne is beginning to walk! On November 6, Lynne will be having surgery to remove excess bone growth on her elbow. This is common with her type of injuries. The surgery is expected to be approximately four hours.

AND --Lynne was back at Gold Bar this past Sunday afternoon! Pat brought her over about 3:00, and they sat on the patio where Lynne was able to visit with many friends! Hopefully, Pat will be bringing her back this coming weekend, so stop by and give her a hug!

For those of you who have been keeping track of Lynne, here is an exciting update!

Lynne has been back atSt. Joseph's for 3-1/2 of eight scheduled weeks of intensive rehab: six half-hour sessions per day!  Lynne is gaining strength, is now eating and drinking, and "talks a blue streak"! She seems to recognize most people and names, though occasionally might have a little trouble. And she is reading!

So keep Lynne in your hearts and prayers, and feel free to drop off cards at Gold Bar for her!

Lynne has been at a care center in Scottsdale for the past couple months. She continues to heal from her injuries, and has been having some physical rehab on a daily basis. She is usually responsive with visitors, occasionally talking with simple sentnces. She has had a few conversations as well, answering with her Lynne-like wisdom or humor. These times are few, but still significant. The therapists have been working on helping her regain her strength and she is now standing for prolonged lengths of time.

In the next week or so Lynne will move back toSt. Joseph's to the rehab floor and begin more extensive physical therapy. She should be there for 8 weeks.

Please keep Lynne in your hearts and prayers!

Sorry that it has been so long since we have updated this link for all those of you who are concerned about Lynne's condition.Lynne has been in a coma for 10 weeks.  On the bright side, there are gradual improvements.  Doctors removed the fixator in her wrist/arm/hand several weeks ago.  Shortly after that, they removed the collar from her neck. Each thing that happens seems to bring physical relief. On several occasions, Lynne has spoken a word or two, and seems to recognize people.  When she has spoken, her few comments were definitely "Lynne-like"!  But coming out of a coma can be a very slow process, and it is easy to be impatient when we are on "this" side of it.  Every change or improvement is a real encouragement. Please continue to keep Lynne in your thoughts and prayers.  It is wonderful to hear from people EVERY DAY about how special Lynne is and how she has helped people, encouraged people, and just touched all of our lives with her vibrance, joy and love! Feel free to drop off cards or notes at Gold Bar and we will make sure that they get to her.

Monday, April 10
Lynne continues to be in stable conditions and her injuries continue to improve.

If all works out well this week, Lynne will be transported back here to the Valley to an acute care facility. There are several modes of medical transport, both air and ground, and those details have not yet been worked out.

Please continue to keep Lynne and Pat in your hearts and prayers!

The kind of news we have been waiting to hear!

Lynne's hip surgery on Monday was successful! Lynne is opening her eyes more frequently, although she is not yet responding to voices. This is a stage in the process of coming out of a coma.

The best news is that it looks like Lynne will be returning to the Valley in 10-12 days! She will be going to an acute care facility in Scottsdale where she will be able to further recuperate and at some point, begin rehab.

Please continue to pray for her as she recovers! We miss her and have her table waiting for her at Gold Bar!

Many of those who frequent Gold Bar during the day may be missing the presence of the Gold Bar "Resident Sage," Lynne McClure. Lynne could be found sitting at "her" table by the door from early morning until the middle of the afternoon at least Monday-Friday, and often graced us with her presence on the weekends as well. Lynne kept track of and scheduled our artists of the month, and also kept the media informed of any art or musical events for Gold Bar.

A special focus of Lynne's attention has been Nick Ruppert, our March artist of the month. An ASU student, Nick was the victim of a hit and run a year ago, and Lynne has been a constant encouragement to Nick and his family, during recovery and rehab. Now it is Lynne who needs our prayers and encouragement as well.
March 19, 2006
On Sunday morning, March 19, 2006, Lynne and Vicki, another Gold Bar regular, were in San Antonio, Texas, returning via cab to the airport to head home to Phoenix after a weekend writers' conference.  En route to the airport, on wet pavement, the cabdriver lost control of his vehicle when it went into a skid. Lynne took the impact when they hit a parked construction truck.

Vicki sustained a concussion and other injuries which did not require hospital admission. Her laptop was bent in half on impact, but fortunately, her hard drive was saved!

Lynne has been in a coma and in traction since the accident, with multiple fractures throughout her body. Over the past two weeks she has been upgraded and moved from intensive care. At this point, the doctor has scheduled surgery for her hip on this coming Monday. Pat has assured us of his utmost confidence in Lynne's doctors. Her orthopedic surgeon is one of the most renown in Texas.

Once Lynne's hip is repaired, she can be taken off traction, and have an MRI to determine if there are any neck injuries.

Please keep Lynne in your hearts and prayers, as all of we at Gold Bar do. Lynne is a special person, greeter, counselor, listener, and friend...Her presence has graced Gold Bar for almost two years, and she is greatly missed! Check this web site for periodic updates.
